Ever since I’ve gotten to Hong Kong, I keep hearing the n-word! I’ve gotta find out what this means… Continue reading

“I hate Hong Kong”
The worst of what I read online involved people spitting everywhere and pushing/shoving each other. After a week, I’m happy to report that I’ve witnessed neither spitting nor shoving Continue reading
Big Bus Tour Day 3 (Tuesday): Stanley Beach and Aberdeen
Aberdeen is known as “Hong Kong Minor”. The 25-minute Sampan ride (included in my Big Bus Tour) took me around the floating village of the Tanka people. Continue reading
Big Bus Tour Day 2 (Monday): Victoria Peak (video!)
Got back from Lamma Island just in time to catch the 6:15pm Big Bus route to Victoria Peak. The steep tram up usually costs $25, but a free ticket is included in the Big Bus Tour! Nighttime is the best viewing time due to all the lights, but tonight was rather misty/hazy, so I just … Continue reading
Lunch with Lawrence on Lamma Island
The guy I bought the Big Bus Tour asked me meet him for lunch Monday and we went to Lamma Island. Continue reading
Monday breakfast.
Pros: Right across the street. $3. Coffee was pretty darn good. Totally edible. Cons: That’s not toast. That’s not sausage. Slightly gross. (But I’d eat it again.)
Panoramic view of Hong Kong
Took these 4 pics with my camera on the Big Bus Tour yesterday and put them together in indesign. Tried to blend them in photoshop, but man that’s hard. (NOT what she said. No!)
Big Bus Tour Day 1 (Sunday): HK Island and Kowloon
It’s touristy, but probably the best thing I could do to figure out where the heck I am. $45 gets me 48 hours of hop-off/hop-on (“You’ll be getting some hop-ons”) privileges. Plug in the headphones they give you, choose your language, and learn stuff like: • Hong Kong has more skyscrapers than any other city … Continue reading
First day: Saturday.
I was only in #803 for one night. Now I’m all fancy in #2001. Here’s the view: How do you change rooms here at 60 West? You pack up all your stuff and “check out” at noon. Leave your stuff in the lobby if you like, but get lost until 2pm when you can check … Continue reading
Hulu and Netflix in Hong Kong
Yeah, that ain’t happening. What is happening? This is. An almost- 3-minute sample of what’s on TV. (The good stuff happens around 0:48.) You’re welcome.
Plane. Train. Taxi.
For a short while the seat-screens stopped working. Thank goodness there was a duck-looking penguin sitting there to assure everyone. (There, Barco. There’s your penguin I snapped for you.) We got these menus before we took off: Catch this part at the bottom? About beer and wine being complimentary? It was box wine. Jerri Tudor, … Continue reading
Finally made it to my hotel, thanks to a supervisor with cash in his wallet.
You’d think a place called “central” would have money exchange, but no. So I had no HK cash to pay for a cash-only taxi to my hotel. Over the past few weeks, every time I’ve asked for basic instructions coming from the airport, Charles has told me to “relax”, not to worry, that everything “is … Continue reading
First pics from China…
…TOWN. Chinatown, NYC. Where we ate tonight. But what d’ya think – could be Hong Kong, right?
