I only like simple Chinese symbols. So not this one: It probably means “guy tripping another guy while trying to open an umbrella.” That’s what it looks like. Well forget that symbol! I hate it anyways. Check out this beauty: Guess what it means. Mouth. A simple square is a mouth! I love it. From … Continue reading

Another fuchsia twin!
Charlie’s an account guy. His dad’s from New Zealand and his mom is HK Chinese. He speaks English with a NZ accent and almost never speaks Cantonese. When coworkers talk to him in Canto he answers in English. We both wore fuchsia today, so I made him take a photo with me.
What I do at work (sometimes.)
It’s probably only 5% of my day, but I wish it were 100%! Rico, the Chinese copywriter, translates the Chinese that he writes into English (red) and I fix it all pretty (blue.) Here’s a small excerpt. Is it hopelessly nerdy that I like this so much?
They took my employee photo today.
Ian interview (video!) and shipping to HK for just $12.85
Here’s Ian discussing his busy day. Rico’s been sick, so I should give him a break. (Plus, I think this is technically during his lunch hour.) Finally, clothes. Turns out the office is more jeans & flip-flops than I guessed. And while I will not be wearing flip-flops to work, I wish I’d brought some … Continue reading
New whatever-bag
Needed a canvass-like bag to carry groceries, my sweater/purse/notebook, just whatever. Picked this baby up on my way home last night for about $2.60. It’s lined and has a zipper. I just showed Chip; she didn’t seem very impressed. “Amphibious vegetation lovanie” and “Flower of the amphibious” and “vegetation, lovablerea lovablereally” are printed randomly and … Continue reading
100th Post!
100 posts in 6 weeks! To celebrate, I’ll write a quick, concise, overall HK update! Work‘s been busy, but good-busy. I waited with Chip until 9:30 last night while she finished her huge pile of work. We had to lock up and the stupid door lock is near the floor. (What genius thought of that?!) … Continue reading
Well! The stereo’s working! (video)
Here’s me at work today.
Brunch at F.A.B.
Finally went to French-American Bistro on Hollywood Rd. (NOT named after the well-known Hollywood.) We both got the Eggs Florentine – clearly the best choice. Don’t ask how much it was – It was expensive because someone decided she needed two mimosas. Food was as good as it looks. I actually get annoyed by people … Continue reading
A-little-of-everything Saturday.
Here’s a video of what my commute home would be every day, but the trams are always so packed I just walk. It’s only 10 minutes; maybe less. Hope it’s not too boring. I’m trying to think of cool videos to make. This is Ian from work. The other person is Phil Collins. I took … Continue reading
Misnomer: World Wide Web
They should call it “The US domestic web that you can get bits of elsewhere.” A little long-winded I guess. This trip has been an internet eye-opener. First hulu and netflix, then amazon, then yesterday I wanted to take advantage of an online Macy’s promotion (huge bag o’ samples if you spend $75) and even … Continue reading
Chip and chips.
Chip is my slight, shy, right-out-of-school desk mate. She’s adorable and can’t weigh more than 95 pounds holding a 5-pound weight. I love how she dresses! Check out these jeans/pants with these shoes from Friday: On a tenuously-related note, I’m not a huge snack-eater, but I ferreted these out of the cupboard at work Friday. … Continue reading
How cute is Chip?!
Sorry about the noise in the background; music was playing, but I don’t remember it sounding like a horror film. Forget that though, how cute is my desk-mate?!
Chinese isn’t that strange…
A Chinese symbol will mean different things depending on what it’s next to, but English works that way too. Continue reading
Broke the law again.
Just like last time, I didn’t know I was committing an offence. Just caught this as I was getting out of a cab today. Continue reading
Why last week sucked.
Last week at work was the worst. (Which is pretty bad, considering it was my first full week.) Continue reading
Damn Amazon! Hate you.
Don’t be too optimistic about downloading stuff from amazon.com. (Just have a friend buy it and email or transfer it to you.) Continue reading
Leisurely lunch before being swept away in an episode-inducing sea of people. (video!)
After lunch we walked around Causeway Bay, which proved to be a big mistake. It was horrible. I’ve never been around that many people in my life. They sprawled for miles in every direction. Continue reading
Friday evening: Haitham and Jody from Scotland.
I met Haitham and Jody in my elevator and they were headed to the famous HK outdoor escalators (which I hadn’t been to yet) so I invited myself. Continue reading
Cantonese and Mandarin are written the same.
I’m serious. A Cantonese speaker and a Mandarin speaker both read the same Chinese. Continue reading
