This time tomorrow we’ll be checkin’ out of ol’ Oceanside Beach Resort. Actually, they shouldn’t call it a “resort”. More like Oceanside Basic Motel. No more scallops salad and tuna tartar from the Gig Shack on Main St.: No more Beach Berlin:
What I know about Hong Kong. (Not much, really.)
The Hong Kong wikipedia entry basically tells me it’s warm – 80’s in the summer / 50’s in the winter – and pretty British. And technically China, but not really. More useful than a straightforward, factual wikipedia is this fb message from a friend who would know:
Montauk for 3 days
We packed up Berlin (there on Lea’s back), hopped on a train and headed to Montauk for a long weekend.
Waking up to Berlin in New York
This was what I opened my eyes to this morning: Look at this crazy rat! His name’s Berlin, but I call him “Berle”. Kind of an old-man name for a surprisingly-old teddy bear dog. (Or, if you prefer, lhasa Apso.)
Flight to Memphis was awesome
Memphis was my layover to NYC and Rebecca’s layover to Charlotte. We met in row 4, started chatting and she offered me a drink voucher! Don’t mind if I do…
Final luggage: here’s what I’m traveling with!
I had a fantasy of carrying on everything I’ll bring to Hong Kong, but alas, I couldn’t manage any less than 1 checked bag and 2 carry-ons. Continue reading
Productive morning
I love visiting Evelyn because she goes out and gets BREAKFAST TACOS from Wheatsville Co-op. After breakfast we finally occupied (well, a-third-occupied) unit #2081 with everything I own. Then came back home to this sight:
Yesterday Part 3: parents!
I finally make it back to Evelyn’s…not the most sober person ever. And guess who’s in town and wants to come by…parents! Chelsea took a photo to commemorate. Shortly after, she did her own photo piece expressing her thoughts on my action-packed day. Meanwhile, here’s Evelyn wearing the top we got her at Marshalls, on … Continue reading
Yesterday part 2: Michael
I met Michael 7 years ago when I interviewed at McGarrah Jessee here in Austin. By this time of day I was not all that photogenic anymore. Clearly that wasn’t contagious. (Of course shades help…) And something very important was going on with people’s hands. I can’t quite recall, but it was unforgettable.
Yesterday part 1: Corey
I know Corey from my Detroit job exactly 8 years ago. Just saw him for the first time since! He had to take a few work calls, but it was worth it for a FOUR HOUR LUNCH! (Or was it 5-hour…)
Storage unit. Check!
Who knew the college kids would snatch up all the daggone storage units for the summer! Got a 4’x10′ until a 5’x5′ comes available. Here’s Evelyn with Andrea, our professional storage consultant.
Evelyn explains Mo-Pac
I didn’t know “Mo-Pac” meant anything. I thought maybe some guy name Mo (short for Maurice) and some guy (nicknamed “Pac” by his baby brother who couldn’t say “Patrick”) couldn’t agree on the name. Continue reading
Awesome Kerbey Lane lunch
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of our trip to Germany, Sara and I had lunch today at Kerbey Lane. I would have gotten a pic of our Kerbey Queso and Kerbey Chicken, but my camera’s shutter speed isn’t that fast.
Leaving Lenny
Look at this big lug! Here we are trying to watch Repo Man last night. Gonna miss him and his big, boney elbows.
Last day at the ol’ parents’.
Parents get back from Minnesota tonight. It’s been a sometimes-relaxing 3.5 days here in Central Texas. Continue reading
Plant Hell indeed exists
…and it’s in my mom’s backyard. Continue reading
