Thanks for posting this, Susan, I was wondering if there was a website that could calculate this. The “Total Recall” remake conceives a technology allowing humans to travel between the UK and Australia through the Earth’s core, which I see now is not technically possible.
Why didn’t they just write it for New Zealand/Spain and at least have been technically accurate?
Wow, it really was a slow work day. The filmmakers wanted to keep the colonialism parable but transferred the action between Great Britain and the Colony instead of Earth and Mars. In so doing they restricted the film’s scope—if anything, sequels should be more ambitious—and missed the opportunity for a great tie-in with NASA.
